02 Chevy 1500 block heater

Postby 021500chevy [OP] » Nov 09 2012, 4:28am

I have a 2002 Chevy 1500 with a Vortec 5.3L. I am wondering is there any way I could put an Engine block heater or something along those lines for my 1500? Has really rough idle on cold mornings and thinking this would help. Any ideas? Thanks!

02 Chevy 1500 block heater

Absolutely, I moved to AK from WA state and obviously I wanted the heater. The best one I found was from the dealer and its a 17mm Allen to remove the screw in plug and install the block heater. Very easy, and a good time to flush and fill your coolant.

First of all welcome to the site from Truro Nova Scotia >>> A block heater is a good accessory to have to assist in Cold weather starts but I'm not sure it will help ur idle except maybe the engine warms up faster ?

I had an in-line coolant heater on my old truck, and although its probably not as good as a block heater, it worked ok for me. All you would have to do is cut your lower radiator hose and install with a couple hose clamps. This also would be a good time to flush out your coolant and refill. It's another option.
