04 Silverado Cam?

04 Silverado Cam?

Postby ctfd157 [OP] » Jan 31 2013, 6:48am

Truck is an 04 silverado 5.3, performance parts are as follows
Flowmaster american thunder exhuast
K&N CAI
Edge CS Programmer

I have seen a couple videos on youtube of guys putting z06 cams in their trucks for around $350. Is this really the case? For the price it sounds like a pretty good add on to do next. My questions are, how difficult is this to do (in my garage, or bring somewhere to have it done?), where do i go to get the parts? and what would an actual price be?

Thanks guys

Pick up the newest issue of Car Craft magazine, they did this exact swap for $300 using all new GM parts. Pay attention to the dyno chart at the end: if you are towing with the truck, is it worth it to lose low and mid range torque? Compared to the stock engine it picked up 47 horsepower, but on the dyno graph it looks like it actually lost low range power and torque, not good IMO in a truck, especially if you tow. Not to say that it had any LESS power in that area, just something to consider. And they did this on a 6.2L engine, this cam would be a lot bigger to a 5.3.
