07 Sierra 5.3 Oil Pressure Issues

Postby tripperdog [OP] » Oct 20 2012, 8:26pm

Gentlemen; i have a 2007 GMC Sierra SLE 4X4 5.3 that has 243K on her but runs fine have replaced oil pressure sending unit twice (which by removing a portion of the rear manifold back plate plastic hose holder became an easy project) and still have intermittent oil pressure readings and when i turn on ignition key the guage pegs 80 then once started sits a moment then goes to 0 and sometimes guage will fluctuate between 0 and 40 - 60 than back to 0. Sometimes warning buzzer and low oil message but mostly just erratic. I have had dealer check everything and worked fine that day of course and oil level is checked every morning and is fine stable around 55-60 per dealer....do i have a loose connection somewhere orr possible computer issue..i have reset dcs and codes many times.??? Good to see one with such high miles on it. I was getting a little worried about the AFM issues when it shuts down to 4cyl. mode and burns oil. Was yours ever a oil burner? I heard low oil levels can cause inaccurate readings or some poorly grounded fuse or a bad ecm. There was a video on someones 2009 doing this. But in this case all the gauges would jolt up and down

Not sure if the stepper motor issue ran into 2007 or not, but it certainly has symptoms of a bad stepper motor.

Thanks everyone but all other gauges work just fine no issues there and yes my 07 is the 8-4cyl step-down and it has always used about 1/4 quart of oil since new but was warned of it in the beginning. Is there anyway to disable the 4cyl step-down in the ecm? Now this morning the oil pressure gauge is reading 0 and not moving at all and replaced the sensor again yesterday myself, cleaned screen and checked pressure with home made adapter at the oil pressure fitting and is stable at 55-65 and all fuses check out. First when turned on the ignition key after new sensor the gauge went to 80 and stayed for about 45 seconds and then went to zero and no changes when i started engine. So i think i have a computer or gauge issue?

I know diablos do it. It is commonly referred to as "dod delete" or displacement on demand. It was originally slated as this before "afm" or active fuel management. You know.... PR reasons

Thanks Mach...taking truck to local dealer today, now the speed control has stopped working not sure when that issue developed as i dont use it much. Also i started getting msgs for Stabilitrak Needs Servicing and also other msgs about brakes. I guess all these miles are about to drain my wallet. Only problem till now was a bad rear pinion bearing at around 175K. Thanks for your help! GT

Be sure to check the brake fluid, sometimes its the culprit for those messages. Ill try and look up the bulletin I remember about the oil message in the morning...
