2002 Silverado 5.3 won't stay running

Postby JWD02Silver [OP] » Oct 10 2011, 10:19pm

I have a 5.3L 2002 Silverado. I drove it home from work and it was running fine but it wouldn't stay running when I started it in the morning. I first thought it was water in the tank as it was low on fuel so I put in heet but no progress. I then replaced the fuel filter and added 4 gallons of non ethanol fuel but still no progress and I don't have any chack engine light/codes. I was curious to see if anyone has had this problem before I drop my tank and replace the fuel pump. Thanks for your help.

Before you go replace the pump. pick up a fuel pressure tester at autozone and test the fuel pressure and volume the pump is putting out.

Thanks, I checked the pressure and it wound up being the pump. Apparently the pumps have an electrical connection that has been causing problems so the new pumps come with a new connection.

i replaced mine this weekend and it is easier to take the box off if you have access to a cherry picker. before you buy one make sure you find out if yours has two electrical connectors on top befor buying one.
