2007 low oil pressure

2007 low oil pressure

Postby stuart29801 [OP] » Nov 09 2012, 2:57pm

new here, but yesterday my oil pressure basically dropped to nothing, rev the truck and oil pressure would come up some but not above 20, no abnormal noise from engine, when i crank truck oil pressure comes up to about 40 which is normal but will slowly drop to nothing at idle again let run for about 5 mins and no knocking or abnormal noise, im planning on changing oil and filter tomorrow, but wondering if anyone else has run into this, was told maybe to flush engine but wasnt sure if that was a good idea, could it possible be oil sending unit sense i hear nothing to indicate actual low oil pressure. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks
stuart

no when i first stopped the truck checked the oil and little to no oil on dip stick, after about 10 mins of sitting on side of road checked oil again and may have showed 1/2 a quart low. i didn't check it again after that but 1/2 a quart should be enough to cause low oil pressure i wouldnt think.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may complain of a low oil pressure message/light on the dash and a technician may find a P0521 DTC in the ECM.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If this concern is encountered, follow SI diagnosis. If it indicates that the Tech 2 oil pressure parameter is low but proper oil pressure is present at the oil filter housing, inspect the Valve Lifter Oil Filter for debris/sludge that could be restricting oil flow to the oil pressure sensor before replacing any parts.
Follow the Valve Lifter Oil Filter Removal and Installation Procedure to remove the filter for inspection. If the filter is plugged, it can normally be cleaned with brake/contact cleaner and light shop air. If it cannot be cleaned for some reason, replace it using the part number listed in the parts catalog. Do not replace the complete Valve Lifter Oil Manifold just because the filter is plugged.

#452 - Valve Lifter Oil Filter

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

I purchased this 2007 for $1200 at a salvage auction,The drive terrain is now in my 2000 s-10,Durring my build i learned about AFM,and what it took to do away with it,If .your 5.3 is AFM,I learned along the way that in 2007 they had problems with failure of this pump,Not to alarm you,but maybe something to consider. If you end up haveing to change pump,I did change out the oil pump while engine was in the s10,no problems

i changed oil and filter as it was about time for oil change and oil pressure came back up. seem to fluctuate a little more than before between about 30-50. but seems to be running fine. Im wondering if i might have had something blocking oil pressure sensor because even when it dropped to zero originally never heard any engine noise. I was using a cheaper oil filter originally and have now gone with bosch.
