2008 Active Fuel management

2008 Active Fuel management

Postby LucianoDeLo [OP] » Aug 20 2013, 4:05am

I have a 2008 silverado 1500 LT Ext Cab Z71 with the 5.3 Active Fuel Management system. I however do not have the DIC (Driver Information Controls) Controls on the side of my Light Dial and was wondering how to see when the engine goes from V8 Mode To V4 Mode. The only control i have is the little button by the speedometer and it changes from odometer to trip and to trans temp. i've seen the same trucks display when it changes from V8 to V4 mode. I also was wondering if you can change the settings of AFM (Active fuel Management) so it kicks into V4 mode more aggressively. can I take it to a dealer and have them change the engine computer settings?

To answer your first question, there is a mod to upgrade your existing setup to have the full DIC capabilities. It is really inexpensive, and dollar for dollar is the best mod I ever did for my 2009.

There is a write-up about it if you search, I'm on AG right now so I can't link it for you.

As for your second question, I have not heard of GM tuning the AFM out, there are ways with aftermarket tuners you can do this (check out the MANY posts on Diablo Intune or Trinity. Also PM 06MonteSS he will hook you up if you decide to go that route.

No, the dealer cannot change AFM setting weather they wanted to or not. To do so would place untold liability on them, from GM , the EPA and possible other state and federal agencies. Once GM (or any other oem) get EPA approvals for their vehicles they cannot defeat or alter any of those approved devices designed and approved to achieve fuel economy or emissions control standards.

AFM is an extremely complicated system and its designed to operate in a certain way and it cannot be altered to meet the owners wishes.

If you want the AFM to stay on more. Check into the range module for longer v-4 mode.
Do a quick search for range on here.

PS - My comments only relate to what a GM dealer can/will do.
