Im thinking of downgrading from my 2014 to a 2011 %.3 with 83,000 miles. I had a 2007 Sierra 5.3 that gulped oil from day 1 and finally started smoking horribly on start up. A local mechanic said GM fixed these issues after 2010. Is this the case? Or should I avoid 2007-2013 altogether?
I have a 2013 and have had no issues whatsoever with mine. Kind of hard to make a blanket recommendation to me, as the problems aren't universal. Some have issues, some don't. Nothing will replace having a good mechanic give it a top to bottom if you're thinking of buying any used vehicle.
I've heard of people with issues covering the span of all those years, I've yet to notice an issue with my 2009 and it has almost 95k on it. I did order the Range AFM shutoff on Monday though just in case of this very issue
My '13 has been perfect from day one. A friends unmodified '10 with 110k has had zero issues as well. The oil burners are rarer after '10, but sometimes still happens.
Agree, heard first hand/and on forums shutting of AFM helps. I ordered the Range which is basically just an OBD2 plug that turns off AFM. If you have mods or plan to mod a Lew tune would be the way to go but as of right now my trucks stock and will be for awhile so I went the cost friendly route with the Range.
