5.3 Programmer?

Best tuner for MPG gains?

5.3 Programmer?

Postby DrakeDawg63 [OP] » Jun 03 2012, 10:04pm

I have an 05 Silverado Crew Cab. I am looking for the best programmer to increase my fuel mileage. More power and torque isn't really that important to me. I just want to get more MPG out of my truck. Any sugguestions would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Yes, I can definitely get you hooked up!

For your truck, the Diablosport Trinity is what you'd want...

the Trinity has the tcm/tranny support and the tranny changes are nice. quicker, firmer shifts, you can adjust the shift points, firmness, etc.. it has much better data logging... has a windshield mount (like a gps), a bigger, color touch screen so it's easier to go through while it's mounted... you can watch/view the data without having to hold it, since it's mounted to the windshield... there's also an available gauge pod mount adapter for it, so if you have a gauge pod like on your a-pillar, you could mount it right in there with the pod mount... the Trinity will also get an update in the future that will allow you tune more than one vehicle at a time with it...

I sell the Trinity programmer, and I also offer a package deal for it that includes my custom tuning at a reduced rate, so you'd save money. Here's info:

Trinity:
http://www.diablewtune.com/package_deal.html

as far as gains go... absolute hp/tq gains are hard to predict... every vehicle is different... even if they're the same and have similar mods... location/weather, fuel used, elevation/altitude, etc etc all play a role... the same holds true for mileage gains - those variables, plus driving habits/style, highway/city, etc all make a difference.... you could gain no mpg increase, or you could gain up to about 3 mpg increase... tough to say due to the variables in play...

I CAN tell you that you will have a very noticable performance difference/gain over and above the canned preset diablo tunes...

With the custom tune, you'll gain even better/quicker throttle response & acceleration, stronger/harder pull, smoother & quicker power delivery throughout the rpms, etc... and sometimes, maybe even a little better gas mileage - if you can keep your foot out of it! hahaha...

I have gained people anywhere from 15-39hp, and 12-23lb. ft. torque...and 0 to 3.5 mpg... again, obviously mods, fuel used, etc all played a role in who gained what...

Here's info about my custom tuning:

http://www.diablewtune.com/

there are links on there to all the info and programs you'll need - i.e. what tune files I need, how to export/import tune files, my paypal info, etc etc... as well as a link to just a small sample of just some of the "Testimonials" I've received from people I've done my tunes for - makes for good reading, hehe.

Thanks for asking man!!

OSD, do you actually have TCM support on the inTune and your truck tuned with it? Wish I was home now, I could be beta testing TCM support for them as well.

OP, I finally realized that 16.5 mpg city was all I was going to get out of my truck and that's driving it nice. But! Lew did bring me from 14.6-15.2 city average up to 16.5 with his custom tuning and if you're will to run 93 he can probably get you a little more (not much) mpg and a good deal more power, it is really all dependant on how you drive the truck. If I drive like a 16 year old kid in my Sierra it wont get more than 12 mpg. I did however pick up a Chevy Turbo Sonic and get 34 mpg in the city so I'm no longer concerned with my trucks gas mileage.

I dont really have money to spend right now. Going to start off with the basic intake and exhaust for now. I have been thinking the Edge because it has the screen I could mount right in the pillar. However I have seen mixed reviews for it. I am working two jobs just to pay for my truck and keep it on the road. Dropping 700 bucks on a custom tune isn't in the cards for me right now. Thanks for your input though guys!

just as an FYI... a good exhaust system costs more than the tuner+custom tune, and you do not get as much gain from an exhaust system as you do the tuner/custom tune... so if you're tight on money, the tuner/custom tune is the more economical way to go to get more gains... more bang for your buck as the saying goes... ;)

new update was released today for the Diablosport inTune programmer... now supports 1999-2006 vehicles!! ;-) plus there is a tcm/tranny support update available for 2007+ vehicles!!

I have the inTune programmers available, and also offer a package deal for them as well... here's info:

http://www.diablewtune.com/intune_deal.html

so that may help you out, since the inTune has a lower price point than the Trinity.. and the inTune now supports your 2005 truck... ;)

I agree with Lew, dropping the money on an intake and exhaust will not net you the gains that the tuner (just the canned 87 tune) will give you. I say pick up the inTune if money is tight and throw your favorite muffler on the stock exhaust and save from there. You will not believe the difference in power just tuning (and especially Lew's tuning) will get you.
