A/C belt change

Postby erguide [OP] » Jan 17 2013, 4:23pm

Local shop verified that my a/c belt was ready for replacement. Said I could do it and save some $$. As I see it, the front engine "pans" need to come off to access the a/c comp. Should be easy enough after that. Am I right.

If by pans you mean skid plates then yes. Also you will need to take off your main belt as the ac belt goes behind it on the dampner

Take the main belt off like popupjunky said, go underneath with a 15mm and take off the front skid plate. Use a 3/8 ratchet with a 3in extension to release the tension on the AC belt. Slide it off the tensioner pulley and then behind the crank pulley. Presto chango and your done!

Relatively simple task, based on the advice from member contributions. Had to jack up the front end.... not enough room for my creeper and my large frame. Otherwise, easy go... slick as a whistle.

good to hear you got it fixed.. I had my ac belt start squeaking like crazy on my 07 and it drove me nuts. I threw some baby powder on it which worked awesome for a month..then i just replaced it

I asked my shop guy why this a/c belt starts to get noisy with age. He wasn't sure, but he thought it might be the same noise one gets when a similar drive belt gets glazed and begins to loose traction. I remember the old v-belts on older vehicles would sometime squeal when the a/c comp would kick in. I knew then it was time to tighten the fixed tensioner. Just some thoughts.....
