2001 1500 with many mods, find myself wanting more.

Adding more power to a 5.3L

Postby philbrous [OP] » Apr 20 2011, 2:55pm

hey folks...I'm new to this forum, actually, I'm new to forum's all together. I've got a 2001 1500 Z71 that I've been doing things to, AEM Brute Force Air Intake, Bosche Platinum plugs and wires, and had a friend do a custom tune to the computer...It has true dual straight pipe exhaust with High Flow catalytic converters. The truck is quick and does everything i want it to do...but I still find myself wanting more.

Any suggestions for add ons...more power, more torque...I'm trying to have the quickest Z71 in my neck of the woods

Thanks for any help fellas

First of all, remove those Bosch plugs. You lost power when you installed those things. Go with Denso.

Adding more power to a 5.3L

Denso is junk. AC Delco is the best. Their wires are the best too. Some guy did a test on another forum and Delco had better plugs and wires than everyone including MSD.

I would like to see that test. For your info, Denso has made Original Equipment Spark Plugs for GM for years.

Adding more power to a 5.3L

Postby Jrluz14 » Apr 21 2011, 7:24pm

And spark plugs aren't where you're gonna gain power. You want to go faster then start looking at different torque converters with a higher stall (3200 rpm), tr224 cam and beehive springs, LONG TUBE headers NOT shorties, and most importantly a custom tune not that handheld crap. Any of those mods alone will wake up a 5.3 pretty damn good.

And as far as that test, I saw it years ago and I can't find it now, if I do then I'll post it. A close friend of mine worked for GM for 15 years and told me the same thing.
