Air Filter Replacement

Postby Flathead9 [OP] » Apr 26 2011, 12:41am

Hey everybody,

I'm new to the forum here, so please excuse my mistake if I'm in the wrong place, or if this topic has been covered elsewhere.

Anyway, I am going to be changing my air filter, and I was wondering what you all are using in your trucks. I've been looking at the "wet" k&n filters that have an oil coating, but have heard of some people experiencing problems with their mass airflow sensor when they use the oil coated k&n.

I am currently just using a fram tough guard, but would like something a bit nicer. I do not want to spend $400 replacing the whole system.

Do any of you have any suggestions or advice? Thanks in advance!

K&N is a pretty good product, if you get one and re-clean it just don't go to heavy on the oil.

oneillt is right, most people rush to get them re-oiled to get them back in their vehicle. I have heard of people buying two filters so that they can have a fresh one ready to go and just take their time re-oilling the one they just pulled. I personally plan on getting Volant's oilless filter for my K&N CAI once it is time to clean and recharge my K&N cone filter.

Welcome to the site. There are companies out there that make dry drop in filters as well.

Go to your local NAPA store, buy the "gold" filter that fits your vehicle.WIX makes their filters. Case closed. Trash that Fram filter.

get the Amsoil EAA123 filter. K&N lets to much dirt thru and to much oil could mess up your MAF.

Thanks for all of your help guys! I decided not to go with the K&N. I went with the "Napa Gold" instead; we'll see how it works! I know one thing for sure, I'll never buy anything from Fram again....

fyi

All the NAPA Gold filters are made by and identical to Wix filters. Drop the first digit of the Wix number to get the NAPA number. So you NAPA Gold should be part number 2487 or 2488.

The NAPA Silver are also made by Wix but to lower NAPA spec's so as to be sold as value leader.
