Another fuel problem

Postby 97_C5 [OP] » Nov 07 2011, 6:30am

02 silverado 5.3. Truck is getting fuel to drivers side rail, but the crossover rail is dry and no fuel pressure at check valve. The lines are clean, replaced the fuel filter and pressure regulator. Fuel does come out when you cycle the key and the line is disconnected, I swapped the drivers rail out with another I had laying around, and blew air threw the crossover tube still nothing. Starting to think the pump is weak, assuming it doesn't haven't enough pressure to open the regulator. I've run out of ideas, any helpful input would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure that you are not getting fuel, or could it be that only that side bank of injectors is not working? If, as you say, there is no obstruction to that side I doubt the fuel pump would be so weak as to not be able to pump fuel to that side if it is strong enough to get the truck to run off the other rail. You said you had good pressure, correct? The pressure regulator should effect both sides of the rail, so I don't think that would be your problem. Especially if you have good pressure (checked by a fuel guage.)

+1 ^

Either there is a restriction you failed to find or you ARE getting pressure in the rail and assuming it's not there because the injectors aren't functioning. If the second is the case then problem must be somewhere in the injector system. I would say it's a control module problem and not the injectors. Too unlikely that all the injectors would go bad at once on that side.
Marine because.

well I got a adapter today, to check pressure at line. As far as that bank not working, there is no pressure at schrader valve and dry in the crossover tube when removed, and that's why I assumed that the pump is to weak to operate the pressure regulator. I will post back with a reading with direct line pressure after work.

So, if you have no pressure I'd assume the pump is defective. Been known to happen a time or two. Do some diagnostics to confirm that, but when you go to buy one, get an AC Delco, they are worth the extra money. Speaking of the extra money, check http://www.amizon.com when shopping for one. I just got one the other day for my neighbors truck and it was about half the cost that Advance Auto Parts wanted and they also had free shipping.

Well, so hook the fuel gauge up directly to the line and nothing, now there is no fuel evenwhile cranking. Pulled pump out cycled the key, the pump made no noise, or even sounded like it was trying. First question is should I be able to here it with it out of the tank? Second, there was still fuel at the feed line when I disconnected it, could this mean that the new filter some how clogged?

Sounds like the pump is bad. Definatly not an uncommon occurance. Yes, you should be able to hear the pump run a few seconds when you just turn the key to the run position.
