Blackbear Performance Tuning

Postby Mudduck [OP] » Mar 24 2011, 9:07pm

I made an appointment with Justin at Blackbear Performance. :D He's doing "In-person" tunes in Temecula, CA on March 30th for $250. Anyone looking for top of the line custom tuning in So. Ca. might want to shoot him an e-mail.[mailto:tuning@blackbearperformance.com] I feel like a kid before X-Mas. Will give feedback next week after some play time.

What a great day I had yesterday. :D So I arrived at Justin's about an 1 1/2 hrs early due to no traffic at all (no it had nothing to do with my excitement). I kicked back in the parking lot for a few minutes and then he comes out. He says he's ready if I am so that was great. He gets in the truck, we plug in his computer and sat there and B.S.'d for about 5 mins. He then says lets take a test drive. I pull out and it was instantly noticable. We did a couple of easy laps around the block so he could make sure everything was running correctly on the truck. The MAF was reading a bit off so we pulled over and he made some adjustments. We took off again, everything was looking good so we hit the freeway. He tells me to get up to about 65 mph and romp it. So gladly I did. It dropped into second gear at about 4300 rpms and launched forward. :P It hit third gear, wait . . no . . launched into third gear and the next thing I know I'm at 90 mph. It was a little pingy just before it shifted into third ( about 5700 rpm) so we pulled off and adjusted again. The next two heavy pulls were flawless. He then asked me if I tow anything which I answered no to. So my "tow/haul" button is now my "sport mode" button. With the sport mode off the torque management is 75% removed and when it's on it's 100% removed. All the shift points are at optimum rpm's and the firmness is very smooth and solid. We were done about 35-40 mins total. I couldn't be happier with the results and would recommend Blackbear Performance to all. Justin's a way cool dude and I was greatful to hand over the cash to him. Best money spent. Now, I can't wait to hit some trails and do some climbin'. Aight then, later.

That's great to hear, I wish we had someone like that within a decent driving distance of Jacksonville, FL. In my 03 SS Silverado I had a PCMforless computer and loved that, and it was just a computer swap with no data logging. I could only amagin how well you truck runs now. Do your AFM and if so did you have him do any work with that?

I had him tune it for 91 octane. I couldn't tell you what the numbers were as far as the ratio but what ever it is it works.

Hey rdss, He makes trips throughout the year to various places around the states. If there is not one for FL., you can get a group together and he will make a trip out. I don't know how many needs to be in the group, generally around 15 I think. You can always do mail order but the "in-person" is better, in order to fine tune it for your vehicle.

Just to add, My truck is completely stock other than an aFe Pro-Dry S drop in filter. So one with other supporting mods would see even more.
