camshaft position sensor location needed

camshaft position sensor location needed

Postby kallen [OP] » Dec 13 2012, 3:39pm

Hello.....

New to site, really have enjoyed it so far.

My question is that on my 09 gmc sierra 5.3 flex, a code for the camshaft position sensor is showing up, also the last day or 2 a clicking or churping sound coming from engine. So stopped driving it. Have new sensor in hand, but wondering where it is located on engine and is it a big deal to change?

Shop here wants $50.00 to put in. I sorta am a diy type person if possible.

Not bout the haynes manual on the 5.3 yet guess it would give a description in that.

Thanks for any help

The camshaft sensor is located on the top of the block directly behind the intake manifold. Have patience it is not very easy to get to.

Thanks for the info. I have gotten the sensor replaced, but a noise from the engine and sent it to the dealer. Only 50k on the engine...keeping my fingers crossed for something simple.
