Check Engine Light P0449

Vent Valve Solenoid & Canister replacement

Check Engine Light P0449

Postby Chesh97 [OP] » Jun 04 2013, 5:33pm

Truck is a 2008 Chevy 5.3

So I now have the CEL illuminated. Got the code pulled, comes back as P0449. My remote start won't work. I have researched a lot, and I believe I most likely need to replace the Canister Vent Valve Solenoid. Oreilly's shows 2 types available... The one that matches my truck is $125... the other one only has one port, and it's $25.

Has anyone replaced this with the one port, and not messed with the remote filter location replacement?

This is what I have, just took the pic

This is the replacement suggestion

But THIS is also listed. Can I just use this one, forget about the remote filter, and save $100?

Also on the remote start not working, I believe these trucks are programmed not to remote start if the CEL has thrown a code because I have a Throttle Position Sensor going bad and the check engine light go on and off intermittently and when it is on it will not remote start

I ordered AC Delco part #214-2149 from Rock Auto. $21 shipped to my door priority mail. I replaced mine with it(it's the single port style) and just zip tied the vent hose out of the way. It's easier to cut the old hard plastic line at the old solenoid and use a piece of 5/8 heater hose about 3" long with a couple of clamps to splice the new one in. My CEL went out when I started the truck when I finished, took all of about 15 minutes. Easy fix, but no more topping off the tank for me as that's what causes the failure!

Read too talls post above. That's what I had planned on doing, but I climbed under the truck to see what I was going to be replacing, and I unplugged the electrical connection and banged the cylinder a few times, plugged it back in, and the next day my CEL turned off. :)

If it comes on again, I am going to do the exact procedure described above. You can also go to the dealer and get the part, it's $30.76 GM part # 25932571

Justr did this repair on my Sister's truck for less than $15.00 fom AMAZON. Here is the link to the part on AMAZON. And yes I removed the unit that had a remote filter to install this. I figure it failed too why not go the cheaper route. Heck for the saving I can replace it a few times over the cost of the unit with the remote filter that didn't last that long...

This exactly. I already have the new "upgraded" remote filter as well. No way I was going to pay $150.00 + for that. I'll go back to the old for $30
