Egr delete.

Postby 08chevy [OP] » Feb 20 2011, 8:08pm

I heard from a few ls1 guys and tuners that iv talked to that egr delete is the way to go for better mpg and can help hp a little also. I was wondering if anyone has done this on there truck? Has it helped? I know a few ls1 guys who swear they gained 8- 10 mpg on the highway. I know it is a fairly easy and cheap mod aside having to retune the computer. Anyone know more on this? Iv been thinkin about it and warranty is almost up.

I've never worked on an EGR system, but if you've got a trusted mechanic, I'd ask him first- make sure you're not going to somehow screw up the engine or anything like that.

I'm not real worried about reunion anything it's more does it help? I know a guy that did it on a 5.3 swapped 240 said he gained about 9mpg but a car <3500lbs is different than a truck.

I doubt it. The EGR primarily serves to heat the intake charge while on open loop. Decreases emissions and helps the cat live longer. If anyone has seen mpg gains by deleting, it is more than likely due to other supporting mods requiring them to go EGRless a.k.a. some headers. What are you considering doing if I may ask? Just plugging off?

I had EGR deleted (along with Cats and AIR deleted) on my LS1 but I promise you it didn't give me anything close to 8-10mpg.

That's what I was wounding. And I was planning on looking into it and find a full kit to do it.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect it here either. I'm thinking your source meant 8-10hp maybe, but i'd assume that was in a modded vehicle as well. If you do it and see any gains be sure to post about it.

Cam heads egr delete and long tubes and tune. 01camaro. Said he was making around 600hp ran low 11s and he averaged 32mpg on hwy. Said egr and longtubes was the money on mpg.

Haha - you were lied to - full bolt on ls1 with the best cam/heads package will struggle to put down 500 and none get 32mpg

from what ive gathered EGR is the best thing that came out of emissions restrictions. my jeep wrangler has no EGR stock and i kinda wish i had one because the other jeep guys get better miliage than me.
