First truck, maybe.

Postby HBDeluxe [OP] » Jun 23 2011, 9:01pm

I am looking at buying a new truck, a 2000 silverado 5.3. its got 195,000 on the O.D. my question is if regular maintenence was done, how many more miles can i get out if it. It is my first own truck so its gotta last a while.

Also, he wants 1,795 for it wich seemed low. KBB showed 5,000 grand in fair condition its a two door has some body damage ( i would give it less than fair) but not a concern of mine. "4x4 does work, has a tow package, New front tires and shocks.""Previous work: Transmission rebuilt at about 145k, front hubs have been replaced, fuel pump replaced and the rest has been maintenance work." "does need brake work but otherwise everything seems to work fine"Is this resonable or do you think there is something he is not telling me. Thanks, HBDeluxe

If it's going to be a daily driver, just make sure you look it over very well and see how much more money you may have to put into it immediately to make it functional. If it's a lot, it might be worth holding out for a better truck that is higher if you're going to have to spend a lot of money on this one right now anyway.
If it's going to be a toy (project), heck yeah I'd give 1800 and then put as much money into as you want as you go.
I'd say trust your gut...It is getting on up there in miles, but no definate way to tell if it's going to last 10 more miles or 100,000 more before you have to get into it.

Good that the tranny was rebuilt. If it was worked with the only other thing I'd watch out for is the rear end. Listen for any humming when you're driving it. (: Other than that, I'd say go for it! Steal the deal before it's gone
