The fuel filter should be just forward of the fuel tank. Your truck should tell you when it's time for an oil change. If you have an info button then toggling thru it should get you to "engine oil life". But if you just got the truck you should change the oil unless you know for a fact that it's been changed. That's always the very first thing I do with a new-to-me vehicle.

We love questions here. Bring'm on... and welcome to SS

Your fuel filter is inside your fuel tank and it is part of your fuel module. I have some pictures of it on here somewhere. It's a lifetime filter. To replace it you need to drop the tank and replace the entire fuel module. Not cheap!

Search the blog area for "why you can't find your fuel filter?". I hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. I guess i don't have to worry about the fuel filter. As for the oil the dealer changed it. I was wondering will it notify me even though i have the basics. All i see when i toggle is trip miles, odometer and engine hours (not diesel).

thanks

No. The only way your vehicle will notify you it's time to change the fuel filter, is when it has no fuel pressure and it stalls or doesn't start. You probably will be safe till about 180 to 200,000 miles. That is IF you buy quality fuel without ethanol.

Sorry to hijack the thread here, but my fuel filter is on the frame rail, forward of the fuel tank. When did GM start putting them into the fuel tank?

I was intrigued by this subject cuz I thought someone misunderstood what he was asking. Then I went back to reread the original 'questions' when I realized he asked '2' questions..lol

Very interesting blog Gordon. Yeah, I'm sure that would not be a cheap fix! Made it easier for those interested in finding and reading the mentioned blog:
