Fuel tank capacity of my 2003 5.3

Fuel tank capacity of my 2003 5.3

Postby DarkGothic [OP] » Apr 26 2012, 3:33pm

This is more of a curiosity question than anything else. I read in my manual that the fuel tank capacity for my truck is 26 gallons, but there was a time when I put over 27 gallons in before the pump shut off (and I had not run my truck completely dry). The pump had a sticker on it that said it was inspected by the department of weights and measures or whatever you call that. I am just wondering why I could fit a whole gallon or so more in my tank than what the manual said it could hold.

I would have to say the pump is off...you can fill a tank up to max and a little bit because it fills up to the neck where you put the gas in but i dont think it could put more than a gallon extra in espically if you werent bone dry.

i believe it's 30 US/gl. On my truck's window sticker it didnt say anything about an extra cost for the big tank though. I have a 2000 ext cab 4 door. i dont ever see any of those either. i always see 99-00 3 doors. when im looking up autoparts i never have the 2000 4dr option. they have that option for a 4x4, but im a 2wd soo...

GM does weird things lol

Used to be that short beds had 26 gallon tank and long beds have 34 gallon tanks.. However a buddy has a 2011 or 2012 Chevy 2500HD regular cab long bed for his landscape co and his tank is 36 gallons.
