g80 rear end

g80 rear end

Postby makoda [OP] » Jan 05 2013, 3:20am

I saw a post on here stating that if you had the g80 rpo code that when one wheel spins the truck will lock them both up for a short time so both have power. So for fun i tried it today and guess my trucks broke or something cause when one rear tire spins it just spins and spins the other never starts. so is my truck broke or does it not actually have this?

It kicks in at low speeds. It should engage when one wheel spins 100rpms than the other then dis-engages when speed of 21 is made if I remember correctly. Its not made for concrete or fast speeds.

It could have been changed by a previous owner or you may have been going too fast while the tires were spinning. It will not lock up over 15-20 mph.

Nevermind what I had posted but, if you drive it like this much bank some money for a rebuild later.

All the above is good advice... look into your glovebox, and look for code G80. That will tell you if you have a locker or not.

yes it has the code g80. I was on snow just stopped and starting until it got stuck in 2wd. When one wheel started spinning the other one never kicked in. So could it be broke. Only guy who had this truck before me didn't do anything to it except rhino line the wheel wells. He told me this and I do believe him, he's very honest. So yeah is it broke or something

OK. I've recently had the same issue on my Silverado... I thought it was broken, which would suck. However, whenever I pushed large piles of snow in 2wd with it, it would lock right up, and also it works great when there's 400 lbs of salt over the axle. Do you drive around with any weight in the back?

no there is no weight in the back. So if it was broke how would you tell other than it not working?

Well, I would add some weight to the back (like 3-400 lbs), and then go for a drive. They might need weight in order to activate.

I will do that. I was just curious though how to tell if you suspected it to not be working. Do you have to tear it apart to see?
