gas mileage

Thinking of buying the 5.3 / 6 sp automatic 4x4 Sierra. Is the gas mileage close to what is on the window sticker? REAL WORLD OWNERS, tell me what you think... :)

I got an extended cab, regular bed, Z71, non-flex fuel, 5.3l, 4-speed with 3.73 gears and a slightly heavy foot. I spend about 80% of my time in small city traffic, 10% on back roads and 10% on the interstate...

I get 0 mpg at a constant idle. The rest of the time I am averaging 15.2 mpg.

I have an 08 with a 5.3 in the 2WD version and I average a little over 16mph with a lot of city driving. Road trips I can get up to 18MPG if not more if I wasn't as heavy footed.

Mileage is about 20ish on the highway and higher if I can find gas with no ethanol in it. I'm getting in the mid teens driving in the city.

Re: gas mileage

Postby MrMark757 [OP] » Aug 12 2011, 12:01am

Sorry guys, I'm the newbie here. I'm thinking of asking before buying - that's why I asked. I'm coming from a 2002 Sonoma 4x4 ext cab 4.3L 4sp a/t. My window sticker when I bought it was 15/20. The 2011 Sierra 5.3L SFI fuel mgt, 4x4 ext cab 6 sp a/t -window sticker says 15/21. So I know what I had. Now going to a V-8, 6 sp a/t, and a bigger vehicle, can't believe this sticker (and of course it comes from the EPA so take a big grain of salr with it). Now you don't buy a truck for gas mileage. But when I bought the Sonoma gasoline cost about $1.42 a gallon on average. I grew with it. So I'm just looking what's in store if i make the move on the 2011 Sierra.

honestly bud if you wanted a colorado or canyon, you will get the same gas mileage regardless between the full size and the midsize. it all depends on how heavy your foot is. I have an 07 5.3 liter new body style and it gets about 19-21 HWY and 14-15 City. sometimes alot less. when you got duals u gotta push the gas, you gotta make those puppies scream! haha. but if your looking into buying a truck you wont regret a full size espeically a brand new one. i could only imagine they have had to of tweeked something over the past few years to help the wallet out a little bit in the gas prices. Plus seems as if the 5.3l has alot of aftermarket products for little cost, heck a 2" levling kit is like $150 for a good brand. and it wont mess up your ride. but to answer your question. Yes you will get right around what the sticker says on the gas mileage.
