GM Oil Consumption Fix

I know there are numerous threads on this subject and I've read through most. I've a 09 Silverado that developed this problem around 25,000 and now at 43,500 I've just had the baffle and new driver side valve cover installed. The tech at the dealership told me I would be getting new pistons and rings when I came back in 2000 miles as this fix will not work but they had to do it before the lower end rebuild as it was GM policy on this issue.
Here are my questions for ones that have already went down this road or may know.
They told me the cylinder walls were not going to be rehoned, this to me didn't sound right. The walls have been set with the old rings. Why would this not be done when installing new pistons and rings?
Are the new piston and rings the exact same that came out? I can see the piston being the same but are the rings of the same design?
Lastly has anyone had this done and put 70,000+ on the engine since?

They service bulletin specifically mentions it will not pay for any rehoning. of the walls... I believe GM is more concerned that this action could damage the motor if done improperly.
Here is a link to the article: http://freepdfhosting.com/0c2e56d9fb.pdf
And a link to one of the better forum topics about this. Not saying that because I started the topic, but because there is lots of good data and discussion here: 5.3 L Chev and GMC Oil Consumption Issue

Thanks Eric!

Note: It is not necessary to hone or deglaze the cylinder walls. Honing may induce unnecessary cylinder wall and / or piston ring damage if it is done incorrectly and/or not cleaned thoroughly. Cylinder walls should cleaned thoroughly with brake cleaner before installation of the new pistons and rings. Numerous engines replaced for oil consumption have been inspected. The cross hatch has been consistently good and is in specification. As a result, is should not be necessary to measure the cylinders if they pass the visual inspection.

It's true, no hone. When my engine was apart (block still in the truck) I asked about the cylinder walls being honed and the SA said "GM says no". I did look at the cylinder walls and the cross hatch looked perfect, however the pistons and rings did not.
