Hard shifting

Hard shifting

Postby minsua [OP] » May 17 2012, 2:57am

Hello to whoever might read this. I am new to this site, but I think it's great. I have a 2007 Silverado 1500 4x4 with about 70,000 miles I purchased last year. I love it. However it has been shifting hard from first to second and the same on the downshift in those gears. Not earth shattering but noticeable. I am a little confused about cold checking and hot checking trans fluid. I am willing to look into it myself, or should I leave it to the pros?

It is easy. Most have a "full cold" and a "full hot" line. How does the fluid smell? Does it look burned or really dark and brown?

Thanks for the reply, the fluid level looks good cold or hot and its not burnt looking at all. It smells like fluid nothing weird to my knowledge. The hard shifting is about every other time I drive at stop and go city speeds. The more I read about similar trans issues the miles are 80,000 or more. Might be time for a rebuild. I do have a power train warranty from the dealer where I bought it. We will see if they honer the warranty.

When the clutches or band start to wear the computer will up the line pressure to compensate for the slippage, causing a harsh shift. You could be right, it may be time to have it rebuilt.
