Help! 2003 5.3 silverado 1500 trouble

Postby Kyle5136 [OP] » Jan 25 2012, 7:45am

Hey im new to this site, im having issues with my truck hopeing someone can help.

To start off...

2003 silverado 1500 5.3L Z71
160xxx miles
Multiple codes.
From memory i had a.. Knock sensor bank 2 code, multiple/random missfire. There are more i will post them Soon...
Symptoms...
When im driving or stopped i will get a bogging out sensation. Also feels like she jolts forward then back to normal. She has not died yet. Its been going on for a few weeks.

Today i ripped off the intake manifold and douched it all out with carb cleaner. The pcv valve was jammed with oil as well as the intake manifold having some oil too. Cleaned everything up and replaced knock sensor 2 which happend to be flooded with water. After reassembling i took it for a test run and all was great untill she warmed up a bit then i got the bogging feeling again.last week i replaced spark plus and wires so those are new too. I also have a strong vibration in the steering wheel, but im getting a allignment this week so yhat should be solved.

If theres any other information that will be useful please ask. I just cant

Just throwing this out there, try cleaning or replacing MAY sensor. When is the last time the plugs were.changed? O2 sensors and cats. With the miles on your rig it would hurt to just replace the.above mentioned parts.

did you mean Mass airflow sensor? plugs and wires were changed last weekend. as for O2 i guess it couldn't hurt to replace... because to be honest im not sure as to when they were changed last. i bought the truck about 6 or so months ago, so the cat im not sure either.

you should get your coils checked as there most likely individual and also put some fuel injector cleaner in the tank when almost empty before fillip, it will unclog any debris that may be in the injectors, my dad had a sierra too and when he was getting shakes and stuff n almost cutting out he had a coil gone. hope it helps out!

Thanks for the tip!
I added fuel injector last week. How does one get coils checked? Ive nvr done it. My friend drove my truck and said it could be the rack. When turning the wheel at times i hear a clicking. He said it needs to be tighter. Could that be the problem also?

All these ideas sound good... but it might not hurt to throw in a new fuel filter too

dont you have to remove the box for that? on my 05 sierra you do, that be a lil more challenging haha, as for the coils, wear a thick glove cuz it will shock a little, but pull the plug wire off one by one and if the truck cuts down, its good, if you come across one the truck does not cut down, that coils gone
