intake manifolds, to mod or not to mod

Postby kly5953 [OP] » Apr 23 2012, 10:01am

I've heard one way and i have heard the other. I know an intake manifold will primarily help your horsepower, and can decrease low end torque. But say somebody drives their truck on the highway daily and then wants to tow and/or go offroading on the weekends. The manifold would increase top end power therefore giving you better mpgs while cruising, but what exactly could you do to keep the low end torque from going down/improve the low end torque as well. Are there performance intake manifolds for trucks out there or will a FAST manifold be the only way to improve the LS based engines we have in the GMT8-900s. Is a cam the only way to stop this or will a good long tube full exhaust help you out there? Will new gearing keep the low end torque delivered at the push of the throttle or should you keep it stock? I had a discussion on this with a friend one day and we started with one question and ended with about 5000 more afterwards :? so anyone that knows what to do to upgrade a truck's intake manifold i would love to discuss this further. :geek:

Hi Kyle,

You need to read this article on Hotrod's web page...

Link: Hotrod

I realize that you have a 5.3L engine, but the mods are going to be about the same... Here' another article(s) on the 5.3L...

Link: Truckin' Torque and Horsepower

Link: Car Craft

They did everything your asking about...

haha, that reply put me in the right direction. I posted once more about a new performance intake manifold designed for trucks specifically in mind. Horsepower and torque figures stay right where you want them and it gives major gains through the entire dyno.
Thanks a bunch. :D
