Knock Sensor problems

Will a bad knock sensor make my truck run bad

Knock Sensor problems

Postby tjsmith1016 [OP] » Jul 23 2012, 3:47am

My truck has really been lagging lately and my fuel economy is noticibly less, the only thing anyone can tell me is that my knock sensor is bad, will this cause the poor performance?

Have you checked for codes? I guess a knock sensor could cause bad fuel mileage if it were to send the signal to the ecm to always retard the timing. I would have someone with a diagnostic scanner (not a code reader) hook up to it and see what the live data is doing and also see what all codes you have stored.

I've got a knock sensor code, bad stepper motors in the cluster and bad plugs. All within a week. Running weak and thirsty but the good news is I don't know how fast I'm going.

Something everyone should do who tinkers with vehicles should buy is a code reader, they range from $20 to $20,000 I have a $300 one, I had two chooses one with extra plugs for odb1. Or a odb2 with fix assist and live data, if there is a timing issue, plug in and watch the timing, if it is out of spec you know it's a timing / knock sensor issue
