My 2009 1500 5.3 Build w dynos per mod

Postby Choda [OP] » Apr 03 2012, 6:40pm

I have a bone stock 2009 1500 Z71 LT 5.3 flew fuel with 52K miles.

Friday I'll dyno it bone stock on 87 oct, then put my Volant intake #15453 on it and re dyno, then put on my Dyno max cat back #38495 and dyno again. Time to see what kinda power these common mods make.

I recently raced my little brother in his Z4 and lost. It was close but i lost. I was on 87oct and reg driving mode. 0 - 99( lol limited )

youtube - Z71 vs Z4 to see the vid.

I'm re ran him today on E85 and in Tow Mode. The manual says on good gas the truck makes 315 and 326 on E85. If I can take anything from that I'll say good gas is >= 93oct. So mine on 87 could be around 310. And I've heard the in Tow Mode the truck revs more and shifts harder. Well... he smoked me even more. Its not the same race cause he had the top up and no passenger ( def makes a dif ). I'll post the vid later today.

Ill keep you guys updated.

The Volant intake came in yesterday, the box and filter are huge! The kit looks to be a good product.

Exhaust should be in today.

Dynos tomorrow.

I think Gm has the numbers backwards, cause on E85 there is no way in hell your making more power. I'm willing to bet E85 crank hp is actually less than 300. I ran E85 once and will never run that sht again. i dont care if gas is $6 a gallon and E85 is $1.50 a gallon.

If I'm not mistaken, ethanol has more energy per gallon than gasoline. It also has more octane, which allows the engine to use more compression, which also equals more power. However, as we all know, ethanol usage means less fuel economy and eventually a gummed-up fuel system.

Keeping an eye on this one... But make sure you stick to dino fuel, please. It's honestly better on the engine, as Jon has stated.

Definitely keeping an eye on this one, should help me determine what I'm going to do with my truck. Can't wait for those numbers.
