was woundering if there was a bigger oil filter avalible for the 5.3l. like on the older motors you could use the short one or the long one if it would fit.

I have been looking for one as well. To date, there is no approved option for a longer or higher capacity screw in type of filter.

I use K&N's oil filter and have been pretty happy with them. But I have not found a larger alternative either. It would definatley be a nice option to have though.

Just a heads up on using longer oil filters. For one, they hang down lower and are subject to road monsters. Two, they tend to leak because they can be subjected to vibration of the engine and like any "lever" can wiggle themselves loose or crack at the seam.

I've found a couple filters that are longer that stock but only by a inch or less.

Not sure if the 2010 & 2011 5.3L trucks use the same filter as my 2003 5.3, but I've been using AC Delco PF-58 filters which are 4 5/8" long. I don't think GM is making these anymore but the GM filter will cross to: NAPA 1045 WIX 51045 and FRAM PH3675. I lucked out and found an ebay auction with about 30 new AC filters so I should be good for the life of the truck!
