Oil leak in 2000 GMC Sierra

Postby jschrand [OP] » Sep 05 2013, 6:30pm

My Sierra recently started leaking oil - noticed drops on the driveway. No oil on the filter or around the drain plug. I noticed a lot of oil on the top side of the skid plate and took a picture of an area on the engine that has a lot of oil residue. I would greatly appreciate any advice you may have on regarding how to fix this issue.

Thank you!

Looks like a leaking high pressure power steering hose.

Thank you Aste. Is the fix just replacing the high pressure power steering hose, or is there more to it than that? How big a job is it?

thanks

It's just replacing the line it's a common issue but their easy to replace though believe it's a 16mm on the pump and a 8 or 10 on the other side of the line and refill the system

+1 on it being rather easy. Replace the hose, then add fluid until it's full. You will probably have to turn the wheel from lock to lock several times to bleed any air out that got in it. Just keep an eye on the fluid level and top it off.
