P0496 Code.... Purge Solenoid or FTPS...?

P0496 Code.... Purge Solenoid or FTPS...?

Postby tmurph01 [OP] » Jul 24 2013, 3:42pm

I have a 2009 Silverado with the 5.3. For a while now it has been throwing the P0496 code. I have also noticed that when I fill the truck up, it takes a while to start immediately after. I change the gas cap with a new one, but this still happens. I believe the problem is the fuel tank pressure sensor based on this, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this and if so.. whats their a guide anywhere on how to replace it?

Thanks!

P0496 indicates some kind of interruption in the purge circuit (blockage or malfunction). It's probably the purge valve on the manifold that's at fault here (located under the plastic engine cover at the front of the manifold near the throttle body).

Yes. I had the exact same problem with my father's '04. It was hard starting right after a fill up and was throwing a code.
For $15, it''s worth trying.

Got a new Purge Valve for about $14... now.. this may be a stupid question.. but how in the heck do you take the connectors off of the old one? I can not figure it out for the life of me...
