Reasons to shut off the AFM

Just wondering of some reasons you guys got rid of the AFM. Or if you didn't why did you keep it?

I have been thinking about it since having several mods added here lately. New exhaust, K&N intake and bully dog. AFM is very noticeable and annoying. Not sure if I can tune this out with bully dog or is there going to be an equipment change. If equipment change then will look at it down the road. :?:

Man reasons are to prevent the oil usage problem and aggravating exhaust drone when using aftermarket exhaust

The last two posts above^^^ are the main reasons and its very annoying to some with the motor lagging going from v-4 to v-8 mode.

Post 2011 models, is there really a concern for oil consumption? I thought the General fixed that issue.

anyone with a bully dog gt tuner # 40410 like i have " last years model" or want one... i just updated mine yesterday, with the help from their tech support to chose the option on their Update agent program for the 40415 update option, like the one that comes with their newest version........ it now has many new options... ONE which MOST of you will like is the option FOR AFM enable or disable option, i tried it and works so much better and i was even getting better MPG, but thats me not everyone. just a lil heads up

Turn AFM off! My '08 5.3 did fine to right about 80,000 miles then oil pump went out. A few days (maybe a couple of weeks) later a lifter and camshaft had to be replaced. Another month or so later and an injector went south. I have no way of proving for sure that those problems were due to AFM but I sure do suspect that they were. I bought a tuner, had AFM turned off, and haven't had any more problems (been a year and a half). I never had the oil consumption issue.

My '99 with 4.8 doesn't have AFM and currently has ~265K trouble free miles on the engine.

My '12 with 6.2 doesn't have AFM and will likely be my last Chevy since they are putting AFM on everything now.

My biggest reason was to get rid of the dreaded noise when it went into V4 mode and made the exhaust sound like crap. I had the oil consumption test done and it only used about a half of quart of oil during the test.
