I recently came into a 2000 5.3 Silverado short box with about 148k miles on it. It has been a great little work truck so far.
Here's the except part...
Yesterday, I ran to the hardware store. When I got into the truck and turned the key, there were no dash lights. Truck was dead. So I popped the hood and jiggled the battery cables. Lights were back. But then, she would start but die immediately, unless I was able to keep the truck above 500 rpm with the gas pedal.
The starting and immediate dying happened once before and was fixed with a new fuel filter. But this was only about 2000 miles ago. Anyone have any insights?
Check the battery cables for internal corrosion and check the charging system. Also check all the grounds from the engine to frame and body to frame. You could also have trash in the fuel, but that doesn't really fit with it running at higher rpm's. Also, check the iac valve.
