Strange Fuel mileage

Postby EKinMN [OP] » Mar 04 2011, 7:36pm

Does anyone know when gas stations stop using winter gas? I had a sudden jump in MPG today. I filled up and drove to work, which is about 90% freeway. I normally get about 18.5-19MPG on that drive, according to the DIC. Check the pic below...Wow!
Either the fuel changed, or my DIC has gone crazy.

I took the pic sitting in the parking ramp at work. I quickly turned the engine off, so the MPG's did not start dropping as I sat there idling.
That would be bad...CEL, no oil pressure....no seatbelt on.... :)

I don't think the mpgs drop when you're idling in park. I've idled my truck an awful lot this winter and the average mpg has stayed pretty much the same.

Where are you buying your gas in MN? I just joined the forum and its kinda cool. I only have 500 miles on my new truck and am not getting anything close to that kind of milage. Hope to someday with the 3.08 axle.

My old truck was a 17 year old silverado...they have come alongs ways!

I usually buy gas at Holiday, or Kwik Trip. Holiday performs well, and Kwik Trip is top tier certified. Don't use SuperAmerica gas if you want good mileage.

I drive from Oakdale to Richfield each day, so all highway on 494...

Also, you have to give that new ride a bit of time to break in. Keep us posted!

Maybe you had just perfect conditions, catching draft of other vehicles going with the wind with great gas! It's quite possible actually. I mean my gas does go down in the winter from all the idling to warm up in the winter and what not. Getting a little warmer and not idling as much as well maybe?
