Throwing a code

Throwing a code

Postby tcrab [OP] » Jan 11 2011, 4:09am

I have a 2000 1500 Z71 with a 5.3L. I used the auto zone code reader to see what was wrong, it was saying that there was something wrong with the EVAP system. I'm not sure exactly what this is, I assume it has something to do with emissions. Can anyone give me some ideas about how I can go about diagnosing my problem? The truck seems to run fine, but I can't stand anything not working right and want to figure this out. Thanks.

First thing to check is simple -- the gas cap. If they do not lock into place well, you will get an error message like that.
Did you get an actual code number?

To find out all the info on a trouble code, just Google "GM trouble code P043."
Or whatever your code is at the time. You will find a whole explanation of how the code is thrown by your vehicle and also what to do to repair it. I was going to spend the $200+ to buy a new Actron code reader that now gives the top repairs for the code, but then found that all the information is on line for free. Use your Google search for your code ?'s and answers. Good luck! ;)

tcrab-
After Duane4238 posted, I was curious, so I googled it for you. Check this link. http://www.obd-codes.com/p0453 I was wrong, it's not the fuel cap, but this should give you some ideas. Let us know what you find out.
