210 seems like it would be normal to me. Mine runs around 205-210 normally i believe. The overflow puking over im not sure about, make sure that the overflow isnt too full

Re: Towing

I have an almost identical truck (04 1500, 5.3L, w/Z85 towing package and 80k+ miles). I've been towing a 16' trailer with car for years with it and have never had any overheat issues. 210 seems normal. Don't take this personally but if you've already replaced the motor and cooling system components you may be driving it too hard or putting too much of a load on it. I love the 5.3L but you have to drive it within its limits. 80k+ on your second motor tells me your driving demands are better supported by a Dmax HD truck.

Re: Towing

Not much help here but would like to say this. I am coming from Ford and gotta say they need to make a better transmission for their trucks! Mine went at 66K in my 05 F150. I had an 02 F150 before that one and it always shifted funny from 1st to 2nd, so much that I gave up trying to get the dealer to help and spoke with the Factory rep in my area. He acknowledged my complaint but stated that there was nothing wrong and they just shift that way. He even backed his word by giving me an extended warranty for free. I ended up trading that one in on the 05... should had gone Chevy from the beginning! Just didn't want to pay the money and these dealer's around me don't want to negotiate so I bought this truck in Ohio, I live in VA. Got a great deal and love this truck already :D

It sounds to me that you need to see another mechanic and get a second opinion.

Good luck with yours

You're just towing too heavy. I did that several times with the 5.3 and it just doesn't like the heavy stuff. It'll tow it's fair share don't get me wrong but every truck has it's limits. I sure tested the hell outta mine.

Time to get an HD?

What temp does your transmission show while towing ? 210 degrees is where mind set on my engine heat also. Is yours a HD Towing Package from factory ? What size gears do you run and tires ? How much total weight of trailers and cars you towing?
Thank you

So to sum up, you had an 08 5.3L that you said was running too hot at 210 degrees (which is a normal temp), then you blew the engine in your Cobalt at 90k, and now sold your 08 5.3L for a 96 250 worth $1000? Wanna buy a bridge?
