Truck has fire and fuel, but wont start/stay running?

Postby traut811 [OP] » Jan 21 2013, 5:04am

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. You all have helped me a lot thus far, and hopefully after this it'll be going to paint.

Truck is a 2009 5.3l 6spd auto. Im getting 62psi when cranking @ the fuel rail. The battery is a new AC Delco. The engine turns over no problem but cant support itself running for more than a couple seconds. I pulled the intake and sprayed some in the TB, made no difference. Butterfly is clean. Air filter is new . Gas is about 4mo old with stabil and seafoam in it. The engine is throwing no codes at all.

Any suggestions? (Please please?)

I would assume that the compression is known to be good. Are you sure it is getting fire in the correct order and that the injectors are pulsing? I would suggest having someone with a diagnostic scanner hook up to it and look at the live data.

Sounds like it could be the fuel pressure regulator to me. It's easy to check, just run the truck for a minute or so and pull the vacuum line off the top of the regulator. If gas leaks out, the regulator is bad. My 2000 Sierra had a similar problem last month and a new regulator fixed it in five minutes.

Does your SECURITY light come on? My '00 had a bad PassLock sensor...I just reached into the steering column and disconnected the wire from the ignition cylinder. Starts every time...only downside is my SECURITY idiot light is always on.

I would try this, but the truck does not start to even get to the "running" point of the test.

I have no security or check engine lights at all. The only light/warning i have is the "hood open" message.
