This is being posted to bring exposure to the changes in this last revision...
Open the below attachment(pdf) to view the latest revision (Jan 2013) to the GM oil consumption problem. It moves the accepted consumption levels from "1 quart per 2000" to "1 quart per 2000 to 3000". It also notes a change stating "It
is no longer necessary to have the customer return multiple times to have the usage verified."

I have until Nov. of this year, truck has 76K on it right now my mechanic has made notes of low oil at each of my oil changes since i purchased the truck with 40K on it what is the best way to get my local dealer to make the repairs required?

Well, depending on the dealer... You first need to bring it to them. Explain the problem...

I would suggest printing the bulletin but dont flash it right away. If however they contradict the bulletin you might want to show they what "your mechanic" gave you.,, if they still refuse, i would seek a new dealer. Push comes to shove you can start a claim here with our GM customer service and let them try and assist...

Subject: Warranty Administration - Clarification of Use - Dealer Empowerment Labor Operations and Customer Enthusiasm (U.S. Only)

Models: 2013 and Prior GM Passenger Cars and Trucks

Attention: This service bulletin does not apply to 'GM of Canada' dealers. Dealers in Canada should continue to refer to the Goodwill section on the Warranty Administration Homepage in GM Global Connect for the most recent information and updates to the GM of Canada 'Enable and Empower Project.'

This bulletin is being revised to update bulletin content. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 11-00-89-005A (Section 00 - General Information).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The effective date of the requirements of this bulletin is October 17, 2012.

For some time now we have been working together to be even more focused on our customers and to put them first in everything that we do. During this time, we've challenged you, our dealer partners, to be assertive on behalf of our customers and make effective use of the policy and goodwill tools available so that customers are satisfied and remain loyal to their vehicle brand and your dealership.

Over the past several years, we have extended increased levels of empowerment to our dealers and our team members so that you can confidently do what is right to satisfy our mutual customers. And while this effort has been largely successful, the reality is that the strategic approach is not always consistent across different dealerships and different markets. In addition, with more and more of your employees engaged in doing what's right for the customer, several of you have requested that we provide additional guidance to assist you in training them to make good quality decisions, on behalf of the customer, while expending resources in a cost effective manner.

It is those requests, and the desire to continually improve the customer experience that are the basis for this bulletin, in which we will be documenting guidelines to further assist you and your employees in developing a more consistent professional approach to resolving customer issues while spending resources in a judicious manner.

Can you send my the new bulletin, the link above will not work comes up as a corrupt file. I will go from there. I know the local Chevy dealer got in major trouble a few years back for refusing to do service on a vehicle they did not sell, so maybe they have changed their ways. Otherwise i will contact the dealer i got it from and see if they can do anything. You can use my PM to send the bulletin to if you wish. Thanks.

Also do i need to reset the computor back to stock mode or is the In Tune not a problem. I just installed it last weekend.

So, according to the GM bulletin, this is only for trucks up to 2011. Does that mean they fixed the issue in model years after that? I have a 2013 and now I am worried.

I got lucky/ and or the dealer was tired of seeing my truck in the shop. I explained the problem, flashed the bulletin and gave them 3 plugs, my 1, 7 and 8. 1 and 7 were covered in oil, 8 being fine. The dealer took care of me, had it back the next day with a new valve cover and deflector. I am glad the service guys have a personality...

It depends on your reasons for removing AFM.

-If it is to prevent burned rings, then waiting until 100K is silly. The truck will normally begin a consumption issue around 40K if it is going to burn oil. If you hit 100K without a consumption problem, your likely not going to have one.

-If you are doing it for performance purposes, the range is simply unplugging away from being able to bring it to the dealer and not have a warranty concern.

-So no, either reason leaves no reason to wait until 100K

The way I read the tsb is that trucks built after 2/1/11, have the revised valve covers and trucks built after 10/1/10 have the AFM shield from the factory. So later production 2011's, 12's, & 13's should already have this. If you're still worried, in my opinion, just do the Range AFM delete and let your warranty take care of any potential problems.

How can you find out what month a truck was built in? I believe my '11 must have been built after the 2/1/11 since the dealership has already replaced my valve covers with the new design.
