Tune up Mileage

Tune up Mileage

Postby AMMazar [OP] » Jul 20 2012, 8:28pm

Hey Guys, just picked up an 08 GMC Sierra 5.3L and I keep hearing that these things don't require a tune up until 100K. This is my first new GM product and am currently a VW mechanic  and am having a hard time grasping that size of plug interval. I have searched and seem to be coming up with everything but the information I am looking for. The truck currently has 40,XXX on it and was thinking about doing plugs, because it's what I usually do when I buy a used truck. Am I wasting my time and money? Thanks guys!

If it's got the factory plugs and the engine does not have a mechanical problem they should last the whole 100k miles.

Tune up Mileage

Postby Machster69 » Jul 21 2012, 12:28am

Plugs are 100k, there is however other maintenance that can be done... Your close to an air filter change(50k i believe), trans fluid/filter service etc... The manual has suggested intervals, or if you have a shop manual they generally include more detailed mileages for certain services...

Get the OEM plugs. AC Delco is the best... anything less is known to cause issues with these engines.

Thanks guys, I am still learning how to use this site and ironically found my answer right after I posted this thread and then couldn't find this thread again. But, while this is open and fuel prefrences and does anyone have any luck with fuel injector cleaner? I have read that the occassional rough idle is fairly normal with the 5.3L but I would like to lessen my issue if at all possible.

I just run good quality gas. I have never put any fuel injector cleaner in my truck. It's not a bad idea to do it, I just never found a need to do so.

Isn't there already a lot of detergents and cleaners in gasoline, anyways?
