Using tuner to disable AFM. Which one?

Using tuner to disable AFM. Which one?

Postby hotrodtba [OP] » Nov 16 2012, 4:27pm

I want to get a tuner to shut off the AFM and end the oil consumption. This is all I really want to do, don't really want to adjust any other parameters. I found a Diablosport Predator U7194 that has been updated to software v.9r10 and is guaranteed to be unlocked from VIN for $200. Would this be a good programmer for what I want to do? Any reason to spend the extra money on an Intune? Thanks.

Yes it will be fine for afm, but no further support is given for that model. Hopefully your consumption issue is not too far gone, sooner = better

Can the predator turn off the torque management? If not, I assume I need to spend the money on the Intune. Also, now I'm thinking I would like to have the TCM options also.

I recommend getting in touch with 06MonteSS. Pm him and order via him. He can give you a custom tune and a discount when purchased together... He is our site rep for Diablo. He also can answer any and all questions with certainty...

Bro, the tuner may not stop the oil burning if its too far gone. How much oil are you using? I would say if you are using oil and you are still under the powertrain warranty have your dealer start an oil consumption test to get to the end result of new pistons and rings. Hopefully yours is not that far yet but if it is, get it fixed and then turn off the AFM with an InTune or get a custom tune from Lew or go the BlackBear custom tune route, that's what I have.

1000 miles since last oil change and its down 1/2 quart, maybe just a little over. Was holding pretty steady until last weekend when I took a 250 mile trip, with about 80-90% of it being highway. I checked it after the trip and that's when it went down.

Along with disabling the afm, I would like to tune out the torque management, maybe tweak my shift points and such in the tranny. Plus I'm thinking dual exhaust down the road, so the afm being turned off would be a plus.

I am leaning more toward the Intune now. Auto anything has them for $329 and is having 15% off orders of $150 or more and free shipping. So that would make it around $280. Plus if I understand it correctly, this will read and clear DTC's in vehicles other than where the tune is installed.

If your at a 1/2 qt in a thousand miles then the rings are probably caked with crud. How many miles do you have on it?

47000 miles. Think some seafoam treatments would help?

Just turned the AFM off on mine yesterday with the intune. Couldn't be happier. Set the tcm shifts to firm and it chirps the tires in second and third! Now just need to figure out how to save my stock and 87 octane tune to my hard drive.

You could but I wouldn't. I would get it in so they can start an oil consumption test. The sooner you get through all the dealer tests the sooner you get to a truck that doesn't use oil and you probably shouldn't get a tuner why the dealer is doing the oil consumption test just because you don't want to give them any ammo to say "it's because it's tuned is why it's using oil". When they pulled my pistons out they were black and the rings were stuck. This is just my opinion, and just my experience with having this done on mine. I was right about where you are at in miles when this happened to mine as well.
