I have a 2008 Silverado CC and it has the old valve cover.

Since I am out of warranty and am still using a little oil, would it be beneficial to install the new updated valve cover myself? It's only $90.

Sure, I would do it. It may or may not fix the loss of oil issue you are having but it will eliminate a known source of oil loss.

The old style valve cover has an open hole which allows oil to seep out along with the gases. The new cover has a plate over the hole which allows the gases to escape but restricts the oil flow. Doesn't stop it but reduces the oil loss greatly.

In this picture you see both old style cover with open hole and new style cover with restriction plate added.

Good luck with your project and update us on your results. Cf

I found this online. I would have looked in my Haynes but I'm at work. It looks pretty straight forward and easy.

It looks like it only takes maybe 10 minutes to pull off. Most of the work is getting all the other stuff out of the way.

I currently have the Range V8 so I have AFM shut off but I'm thinking the updated valve cover might help with the oil seeping.

Is there any way to tell which cover is which from the outside?

Looking at a used 5.3, I'm wondering if there is some way to tell if a previous owner has installed the updated covers.

Thanks -
I have replaced a few of the covers but don't remember if there was some sort of different marking between the two. I think the updated cover is part #12570427. Not sure if that helps though. Driver side only needs replaced.
