weird starting problem

Postby pred03 [OP] » Feb 14 2012, 1:27am

just bought a NBS 2007 crew with a 5.3 love the pickup but it seems to have a weird issue in the morning or after its sat for a day when it comes to starting. when i turn the key to start it, in stead of say reving up to 12 or 1300 rpm then coming back down to idle like a pickup does when its warm, mine will start but just barely, slowy working its way up to idle. when the engine is warm, it doesnt do this. it only happens when its cold in the morning when i go to work or from work and then doing home. no other issues with the turck so this kind has me perplexed. any help would be great

Sounds like the idle air control valve is not working correctly. It may be a bit of carbon buildup in the throttle body that is more sticky when it is cold. You could try removing the throttle body and cleaning it with sone throttle body cleaner.

Mine started doing the same thing after I put a K & N intake on it last week. I have a 09 5.3 with 30,000 miles on it. I cleaned the MAF and made sure all the fittings were seated correctly, which helped a little, but still seems to have some problems at cold start up.

weird... i wounder if the intake really makes the problem come to life? i did take my pickup to the dealer and they said everything was normal and the truck was coming up to rpms as it should... one software update and 150 bucks later its still doing the same thing... oh well... it still starts so i guess its not to much to worry about

I unhooked the battery once again, and this time it seemed to help out. Not sure if I didn't leave it unhooked long enough the last couple times, but it seemed to help. I had also gotten in contact with K&N, they told me they had never heard of this problem, and suggested I take it to a reputable shop. The last time I unhooked the battery, I left it unhooked for about 30 mins. Hope this helps.
