2005 6.0 check engine light

Postby rugermk2 [OP] » Dec 25 2012, 1:16am

Hi all, I have a 2005 k2500 4x4 with the 6.0 gas motor. I was on the interstate yesterday running around 80 mph and the check engine light came on. Nothing seems different, still runs as it seemed before, and idles fine. Had local auto store test it and it threw a P0300 code. Said it was a random cylinder misfire. Any ideas on what it might be? Truck has 108,000 miles but doesn't get ran hard. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Let me guess-

It's a flashing CEL, but the engine runs just as good? Sounds like you need a crankshaft position sensor relearn. It's a common issue on these trucks... I had that problem on my Sierra last year. You'll have to take it to a shop, and tell them you need the procedure done. They might balk at first, but it only takes 10 minutes with a good scan tool. My shop charged me $25 :)

OK. Do the RPM jump when the light comes on, on the freeway?

I don't think it did, but it hasnt went off since it came on. Seems to be running just like it did when i bought it. No hesistations, stumbles, or rough idle. Scanner at auto zone said random cylinder misfire.

Alright. Sorry, but I thought your symptoms were matching the ones I had.

Most times a random misfire is caused by a vacuum leak. I would check the intake gaskets for a leak, as they are prone to leak.
