I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30, I buy 6 quarts and usually 5.5 quarts fills it up. You can get this at Walmart, it is Mobile 1's best synthetic oil.

and I use K&N oil filters

check this link out, you can get the k&n oil filter for $7.99 (which includes shipping). Normally these filters are $15-20 at the local auto parts store.

This is the link to K&N's website where you can verify which filter will fit your truck

I have been using the ACDelco Dexos until the truck breaks in properly and ACDelco Filters.

After 10,000 miles I'll be switching to Mobile 1 Full Synthetic and K&N Filters.

I'm using Mobil 1 Extended Performance because its dexos1 approved and I value my warranty at this point...no sense in fighting over whether an engine-related problem was because I used a non-approved oil (even if the oil had nothing to do with the failure). The dexos1 rating, or "requirements for approval", seems to be better than the current API SN and other current requirements...so it typically means better oils anyway.

The 2012 doesn't give much in the OM with regards to alternatives, there is one small paragraph state "or equivalent"...but its buried in there.

I am using Purolator Pure1 filters...no other reason than I got them on sale.

2012 2500 6.0L What type of oil to use?

Postby bigl3456 [OP] » May 31 2012, 4:22pm

Thanks for all the info guys. Just don't look like they have many choices out there. This is the first truck that I have had and they are that picky with what type of oil you need to use...
