How can I tell if my Alternator is going out? Since it's gotten cold, the Voltage meter keeps fluctuating (going down to 12 and shut off the heater, radio, etc. it goes back up). I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. Don't feel like changing it in this cold weather unless I absolutely have to.
Go have your battery or batteries tested first. Also auto shop can run a load test on alternator to check voltage, amperage and diode pattern.
