Coolant Leak

Wet spot under truck!

Coolant Leak

Postby bepighd [OP] » Feb 11 2012, 3:11am

This past summer, and warm days during fall and winter, I started to notice a wet spot under my truck. The truck had not been driven because I was drving my company truck to and from work. Closer inspection revealled that it was coolant that appearred to be coming form the over flow on the reservoir. The coolant level in the reservoir was low so I added some and drove the truck. It never ran hot and the coolant stayed in the truck. I continued to find coolant leaking several times so I took it to the local Chevy dealer. They topped off the fluid, pressure tested the system and could not find a leak. I still find coolant on the ground under the truck on warm days. HELP PLEASE!!

Have you checked to make sure the coolant resevour is not cracked? Also, where under the truck is the wet spot? A lot of times the water pump can leak out the "weep" hole and it is hard to spot. It's unusual that the dealer could not find a leak during the pressure test. Are you sure it is coolant and not condensation from the air conditioner (probably not, but thought I'd throw that out there)?

Sure it was not condensation. I wasn't even driving the truck most days as I was driving a company vehicle. The liquid was orange, the same color as the coolant. Didn't think about the resivor being cracked. The leak was always under the right side of the truck.

Since it's under the right side I'd check the resevour and associated hoses for leakage.

I had the same thing going on with my truck.. coolant leak from the right side. I replaced the water pump and it appears to have stopped leaking. I would check the water pump
