ECM reset question

Postby starspangled6.0 [OP] » Mar 11 2011, 9:08pm

When I read the manual on an engine mod, it will usually tell me to disconnect the battery, not only for safety while I'm working on the truck, but as well as to reset the ECM, so that the truck can learn the changes that the mod will make.
Is this effective? How long does the truck have to be unplugged for the ECM to reset itself?

What are you worried about? The new tbs? I honestly don't think it's gonna need it.

It's more of a general truck question. I've heard about it a lot, but have never heard much science behind it.

I had a tech guy at K & N filters a Couple of years ago tell me it can take around 50 miles for the computer to adjust . Now that was on a 06 G.M. Hummer H3. Not sure how well this answers your question. Someone will probably get you a better answer soon.
