First oil change

First oil change

Postby Chevrolet way [OP] » Nov 25 2012, 10:43pm

So I bought a 2013 2500 hd 6.0 crew cab recently and it's almost time for my first oil change. I would like to change the oil my self and for as long as I can. Being my truck is brand new, does anyone know if it would effect my warranty ? I intend on using dexos 1 approved synthetic oil and always keep my reciepts and use only gm oil filters. Ive had issues in the past with people changing my oil and honestly don't really trust anyone else to change it anymore. I wouldn't think it would effect any warranty but who knows ? And what is the best dexos 1 synthetic oil in your opinion. Thanks

First oil change

Make sure to keep receipts of the oil and the filter. Keep record the miles along with that receipt also. I try to keep as much info as I can when it comes to warranty and the oil changes. I am currently running the Amsoil Signature Series in my 6.0 that has 210,000 miles on it currently.

Thanks for the info, I've always ran castrol synthetic because you can buy a six pack at Costco for $35 and now I hear there's a battle over the dexos 1 certification and castrol, as castrol states there brand exceeds the dexos 1 certification and refuses to purchase the standard, as with another company. So just to stay on the gm warranty side I'm sticking with the dexos 1 cert. But warranty states it's not an absolute must.

Its recommended, but its just a money scheme. Amsoil does not have the stamp, but exceeds spec! I wouldnt get caught up on that

Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum and Quaker State Ultimate Durability are all synthetic and have the official dexos cert. Of all the dexos certified oils these three are probably the easiest to find as they are all at Wally World or in most auto parts stores. In all honesty the specs on all three are very similar and either would do a great job. Since you mentioned money (Castrol @ Costco) the Quaker State is the best buy at $20.47 for five quarts at Walmart. Keep receipts for oil and filter. I also enter my oil changes on the GM owners center website. http://www.gm.com/gmownercenter/gm/ Good luck with whatever you decide to go with.
