if your mean oil changes based on the OLM (oil life monitoring) system, yes. Changed mine yesterday as it had got down to 5%. turns out the last time I changed it was early April , which was 8000 miles ago.

But the OLM is not a substitute by any means for a periodic check of your oil level. That is a completely diferent issue.

Que the great debate, again! lol This issue is one that will never die bc people just have differing opinions...

Some are religious 3K mile changers
Some run synthetics and change the oil @ 5K,10K, and 25K miles
Some go off the OLM(me)
Some use synthetic and change @ 3K
Some use synthetic and change based on the computer(me soon)

The important thing is to make sure you have oil in there... maintain a proper level as it is custom for these motors to use some, burn some, lose some... between changes!

You did not list the type of truck, or year in your avatar or post. So, it's a bit more difficult to give a complete answer.

If you are 1/2 way down your dipstick though, you need to top it off. As stated before, the OLM measuers the remaining life of the oil....but not the amount of oil in the engine. That's up to you and the dipstick!

Now, if you want to talk about what type of oil to use....well,...we do that a lot around here. :D

Few few pointers.

1) check your oil level at least once a week.
2) Change oil and filer when needed either by 3k/3mo, or the OLM.

You will be just fine ;)

BTW: T-Rex is getting her Oil changed, tire rotation and the rear bearing clip inspection tomorrow morning.

I change my oil every 3000 miles, and I use Mobile 1 in my 03 2500hd with 6.0. I never wait for the change oil light to come on. That is probably one of the worst things any of the auto makers came out with in my opinion.

I change mine when it gets to single digits. I also recommend topping it off.
If it ain't right, don't do it....If it ain't true, don't say it....If it ain't yours, don't take it.
