Oil Pump

I think my oil pump may have died!

Oil Pump

Postby Chevykid74 [OP] » Dec 10 2010, 4:05pm

Yesterday my "low oil pressure" message came up along with the dinging. I stopped checked my oil it was bout 1/2 qt low, added some more started up and made it to work. At the end of the day made it about 2 blocks from home and same thing (I live about 20 miles from where I work). So I after about an hour I go back and check things out, let the truck idle, pulled the dipstick, oil up on the dipstick. That means oil pressure right? So I take my son to practice and on the way home same thing happens. This morning I called my mechanic to take a look at the whole thing.

BTW it is a 04 Silverado 2500HD 6.0 with about 160000 miles. Oil life percentage down to 5%, was going to change this weekend.
If everybody thinks they own the best truck, then why are so many fords, dodges, and toyotas on the road?

It could be ur oil filter is plugged and creating a restriction causing low oil pressure..it could be a bad sensor..if your oil pump died..it wouldnt take long at all to fry that thing like bacon on a skillet

***UPDATE***
My mechanic picked up my truck yesterday! After doing some research, he said it could be one of two things: 1) bad sensor 2) "O" ring on the pick up tube in the pan has gone bad

He had a hard time looking for info, because the 6.0's don't have any problems in general.

Re: Oil Pump

Postby Chevykid74 [OP] » Dec 17 2010, 11:20pm

Well, finally got the verdict on my truck today. It was the oil pump, plus the water pump had a "tiny" trail coming from it. Mech said it probably just started to leak. Anyway, if the parts come in tomorrow I will have my truck back Monday afternoon, if not it will be Tuesday.
My mech. said he had hard time finding any repair information on the 6.0L. They are just too reliable and solid built motors.

ya i am glad especially with the weather we are having. would have sucked to be stranded in the ice storm we got Wednesday night, or the single digit temps. Just miss not having it with the snow and ice on the ground and week old tires. LOL
