Throttle position sensor

Throttle position sensor

Postby pgeorge [OP] » Nov 30 2013, 2:33am

Cleaned throttle body, now I have a high idle problem. After starting idle will go to 2000 rpms.Sometimes it will go down to 1100.when driving it's like being on cruise control. Can the throttle position sensor on the throttle body be replaced without replacing throttle body? Do you have to reprogram computer after replacing position sensor or the throttle body if necessary?Code said throttle position sensor was was bad.

Had the same issue on my sister's truck too. Started with a code for a bad throttle position sensor, dealer told her $500.00 to replace the throttle body. I searched and found everyone posting that the throttle body just needed cleaning. And after doing so this would be the symptom while it was in relearn mode. My brother-in-law drove the truck like you are experience for a couple days. Each day he said it was getting better.

Do not leave it in park or neutral, you will just set codes for high ideal. Just drive it is all I can say it will get better.

There is a relearn procedure for the idle with use of a tech2. There is also a special policy for 07-13 silverado for throttle sensor faults for the dealer to replace the sensor and program ECM and relearn idle up to 120000 miles

Yup, I've had this happen on most vehicles I do a TB spray cleaning on. Even when I can remove the TB and sensors, either the cleaner residue or just leftover crap residue normally throws sensors nutty. The TPS is purely mechanical, just reads the degrees on the TB flap shaft, but if crud is deeply embedded in the there and it's sticking open, that can result in intermittent wacky RPMs. The IAC is always the one that gets me, on any vehicle, it's always crammed down some passage way that isn't easy to clean out totally.

So yeah, there's crap in there still...
